This Info was originally compiled by Robin Betson, who did this as a project for school.  It has since, been modified it to include other info.   These providers are NOT necessarily recommended by the family support council.

The following programs are found at Easter Seals. Their mission is to maximize the independence of individuals with special needs by providing the highest quality services.

Aquatic Therapy - This program helps to improve mobility, strength, coordination, and endurance
that may have been affected by injury, disease, or congenital problems. Those helped by
aquatherapy may have been diagnosed with autism, ADD or ADHD, Down Syndrome,
cerebral palsy, developmental delays, learning difficulties, or problems due to injury.
 
 
Audiology Program - Offers pediatric hearing assessments, auditory processing testing, infant
hearing screenings, and hearing aid services for infants and children and education
seminars.
 
Hippotherapy - This is a therapeutic riding program that uses the movements of a horse to improve a child?s balance, posture, mobility, function, and sensory processing. This program helps to increase strength and muscle tone. Children who can benefit from this program can have a variety of diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, developmental delay, sensory integration disorders, traumatic brain injury, stroke, autism, learning disabilities and language disorders.
 
Occupational Therapy - This program helps develop the ability to perform daily life activities such
as feeding, dressing, or bathing by addressing fine motor skills and underlying sensory
motor skills. Occupational therapy focuses on enhancing or restoring function affected by
injury, disease, or congenital problems.
 

P.O.P. Academy Programs - Personal Optimal Performance Academy is an after-school program

specially designed to meet the needs of children ages 7 to 10 with ADD, ADHD or those who struggle with social, behavioral or academic challenges which could include children who have other diagnoses with these symptoms.
 

Physical Therapy - This program helps to preserve, develop, and restore physical function that

may have been affected by injury, disease, or congenital problems. Physical therapy helps
children improve overall body control and stability, and develop and restore gross motor
skills like walking, running and tossing balls.
 

Sensory Processing Therapy - Sensory processing therapy, conducted by both occupational and

speech therapists, includes therapeutic listening (which helps with non-verbal
communication, timing, handwriting, movement, focus, and attention) and interactive
metronome therapy (which helps by enhances focus, coordination, timing,
planning/sequencing, concentration, motor control, and self-esteem), and addresses
sensory issues such as Dysfunction of Sensory Integration(DSI),
Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADD or ADHD).
Those with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, learning
disabilities, and behavioral issues can be helped through Sensory Integration Therapy.

 

Speech Therapy - Speech and language therapy focuses on enhancing or restoring communication
skills or feeding/swallowing capabilities limited or otherwise affected by injury, disease, or
congenital problems. Speech therapy results include improved articulation and language,
alleviation of stuttering alleviation of feeding problems and improved oral-motor,
swallowing and respiratory skills. Speech therapists specialize in working with children
with autism. Alternative communication systems are used with children who cannot rely
on speech or hearing as a communication means.
 

Camp Challenge -

Florida?s only camp designed for children and adults with disabilities. The

camp is an integral part of their care and pursuit of independence.

 

Camp Challenge Respite Camps -

This program was developed as an answer to the number
one

need of parents and caregivers of people with disabilities. The weekend program offers all
the amenities of summer camp for a shorter period.

These are other programs in the area that are available to parents with children who have special needs.
 
Division of Blind Services - You must be totally or legally blind to benefit from these services.
This program teaches cognitive and motor skills. They teach you how to be independent,
such as eating. There are also classes that help you adjust to the blindness.

Special Format Library
Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Services - The Bureau serves over 41,500 Florida customers
who cannot use regular print due to a visual, physical, or reading disability. It is the largest
library of its kind in the U.S. with a collection of 2.1 million items on audiocassette and in
Braille and annual loans exceeding 1.36 million items. The Bureau offers services such as
offering magazine subscriptions with over 100 popular titles available, loaning out
equipment, and mailing catalogs out with updated book listings bimonthly.

Center for the Visually Impaired - This program serves visually impaired individuals in Volusia,
Flagler, Putnam and Brevard counties. CVI?s core services include independent living
classes, adjustment to blindness counseling, orientation/mobility, low vision services and
computer instruction.

Florida Lions Conklin Center for the Blind - This program provides life skills training for
multihandicapped blind adults and visually impaired children from birth to age five in
Volusia and Flagler Counties.. Programs include adult basic education, daily living skills,
residential training, vocational evaluation and training, orientation and mobility, supported
employment, supported living, community access, and an early intervention program.

Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services of Volusia and Flagler Counties - Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Services of Volusia and Flagler Counties, Inc. Is a non-profit organization. Any hearing
impaired or deaf person is eligible to receive these services. Their services include
information and referral, interpreting, advocacy and education, Florida Telecommunication
Relay, Inc., special needs services and sign language classes.

Florida KidCare - This is health insurance for children, from birth through age 18, who do not

have insurance. Eligibility for Florida KidCare is based on income and family size.

Florida Diabetes Camp - Florida?s first diabetes camp is for children and youth with diabetes. It
serves ages 6 - 18 at a variety of different camp events. There are many camp programs
held in the Deland area. Located in DeLeon Springs (Volusia Coutny).

Early Steps - The Early Steps System serves Florida?s infants and toddlers birth to 36 months with
a developmental delay or a condition that places them at risk of developmental delay. The
program, through collaborative community partnerships and investments, ensures that
infants and toddlers with special needs and their families achieve their full potential in the
context of everyday relationships, activities and places.

Daytona Beach Department of Leisure Services -Therapeutic Recreation Specialists
BlazeSports Club Daytona Beach - Daytona Beach officially began offering opportunities
to individuals with phusical disabilities in 2001, although had done so unofficially prior to
that date. Working together, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, and Daytona Beach have
hosted a variety of sports and recreation programs including little league baseball
(Challenger Little League), swimming, and ralleyball. Recently added to their facilities was
the Florida Tennis Center, which has 24 clay courts and jointly serves as headquarters for
USA Tennis Florida.

Camp T. Rec - This camp services all special needs children who are ages 6 -17. It is six weeks
from the second week in June to mid July. There is recreation, sports, arts & crafts,
speakers, and more.

FDLRS - Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System Centers
Child Find Program - Child Find assists school districts in the early identification of children, birth
through age 21 with an emphasis on children, ages 0 - 5 years, who have disabilities or who
may have learning problems. This is accomplished through a free screening, which
measures basic hearing, vision, language, and motor development. If there is an indication
that child may have problems in these areas, he or she is referred for further testing.

In Volusia: Typically, children who live on the east side of Vulusia County are brought to Palm Terrace Elementary School on Dunn Avenue in Daytona Beach.
Children who live on the west side of Volusia County, are screened at a public shcool in Deland or Lake Helen. You may call to schedule an appointment.
 
Family Care Council - The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) serves clients that have
Mental Retardation, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Prader-Willi Syndrome.
Individuals are to contact APD ad fill out an application to determine if they are qualified
to become a client and get their name on the med. Waiver waiting list. "Working to assist
individuals with a developmental disability and their families".

Halifax Diabetes Education - This service provides diabetes education on everything that older
children and adults need to know about diabetes. It consists of a comprehensive proram, teaches
the person how to use insulin and the importance of good nutrition.

UCP of East Central Florida/WORC has provided services to local youth and adults with disabilities since 1969. The organization serves over 550 individuals each year in Volusia, Flagler & surrounding counties. The agency is committed to its mission to provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities which promote choice, increase independence and enhance quality of life.

  • Adult Day Training: Exposes individuals with disabilities to a variety of work-related experiences to develop job readiness and social skills in supervised work and social environments.

  • Community Support Services: Offers in-home supports, respite, personal care, non-residential support and companion services to promote quality of life through education, experience and exposure in both the individual's home and community.

  • Employment/Supported Employment Services: Partners an individual with a Job Coach who works with, develops and trains this individual on an intensive, one-on-one basis in a specific employment venue.

  • Vocational Evaluation Services: Uses a wide variety of testing tools to measure academic achievement, aptitude and interests related to employment and recommends the best-suited career path.

  • Youth Employment Services: Assists students with specific learning disabilities by combining classroom instruction with work experience to create a positive transition from school to work.

  • Residential Services: Offers in-home and community support services to individuals through the following programs:

    • Supported Living Services: Pairs an individual with a Supported Living Coach who provides training and support on how to live in the community.

    • Assisted Living Services: Includes WORC Haven and Dove Villas, licensed Assisted Living Facilities, which provide assistance and training in a homelike environment on a 24-hour, staff-supervised basis.

    • HomeAbility Program: Provides supportive services and advocacy to eligible candidates interested in homeownership through a partnership with Fannie Mae.

  • Business Services: Offers local employers an alternative, dedicated workforce to clean, refurbish, package, assemble, collate and/or prepare bulk mailings to reduce administrative costs.
