III. Agencey for Persons with Disabilities
Update
Cliff Robertson informed us that the Legislature passed state wide
that CBC minors on the waiting list be moved on to the waiver based on needs.
This new law will affect 1500 individuals in District 12. Member Pearson
asks why would they do this? Member Robertson replies because of abuse? Pearson
stated that there are a lot of upset families that have older children who have
been on the waiting list for a long time. There are many families who
are not able to provide adequate care for their child/children with out help
from agencies. Member Kegle replies “good but not fair”. Could we get
written information about this? There was a mention of a training that will be
coming up in January of 2007. There is a Health Care Summit on October 16th,
2006 at the

IV. OLD BUSINESS:
Flyers were mailed.
There was talk about trying to see if we could get bulk mailing rates. The Post Office will not allow us. Member
Kegle ask if we could use another company (private agency)? However that could
not happen due to the HIPPO laws. The budget papers were signed. At 3:24 Kelly
Johanessen joins. We voted on the by-law changes. The spreadsheet handout was
distributed. We discussed that the end of the year budget would end with X
amount of $’s in surplus. We are waiting on Easter Seals to sign agreement. We
discussed changing the travel/living expenses to perdiem. Send a copy of the
budget and by-law changes to Stephanie Khan. There was a discussion about the
extra money that is left over on each individuals monthly budget and what
happens to the funds that are not used.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
Member
Kegle
discussed and asks other member “How to get new members?” We mentioned the
previous discussion of 2 new members; Irene Gallo and Dr. Abrambs. Member
Sylvestre
made a motion to accept both candidates. Motioned seconded by member
Pearson. Motioned carried.
We discussed the
website. Discussed the possibilities to breakout in sessions in the future to
help us educate the people about people with disabilities. Member
Pearson
recommends that APD/FCC needs to commit to providing information to us at every
meeting. Member Robertson suggests that he sees no reason
why someone from APD couldn’t provide information at our meetings. Member
Robertson
asks that we let APD know what type of information or training would we like.
Member
Kegle
reported that there will be a Family Care Council Florida meeting on November
17th & 18th but she could not attend. She asks if anyone would
like to attend?
