ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTIONS:
The meeting was called to order at 3:06 PM.
Roll call established a quorum.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from
the meeting on May 10th, 2007 meeting were reviewed and discussed by
member and guests present. Chairperson
Pearson made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 10th, 2007
meeting. Motion carried.
III. OLD BUSINESS:
Member Pearson
mentioned that he would like to track how often the Stanfield Videos, purchased
by FCC12 and donated to the Volusia/ Flagler Libraries, are being checked
out. Member and guests discussed that
the libraries keep track of that information and should be able to share that
information.
Chairperson Pearson
brought copies of the most recent Family Care Council Area 12 newsletter being
mailed out to individuals on the waiting list.
He briefly discussed the different issues and information reported in
the newsletter. He also reiterated the
importance of Area 12 being an active voice to our representatives so that
issues concerning the developmentally disabled are heard and decided upon
appropriately. He would also like the
APD to be less driven by their budget.
At last month’s
meeting the eviction notices sent to 27 individuals by Duvall Homes was
discussed. Chairperson Pearson mentioned
that he might write a letter regarding this unfair action from Duvall
Homes. Chairperson Pearson did in fact
write a letter and spoke to some family members of the residents affected by
this action.
IV. APD UPDATE:
Today’s update came
from Leslie Richards. She reported that
95 people in District 12 are affected by a recent rate change. This means they will have limited support
coordination resulting in 7 days of services per year cut. In addition, 264 people in District 12 will
have services eliminated, which include therapeutic massage, therapeutic
massage assessment, psychological assessment, non-residential support services,
chore services, and homemaker services.
These eliminations are based on active or pending service plans. Also, the definition of companion services
will be expanded to one on one, one on two, and/or one on three.
V. OPEN DISCUSSION:
Expanding the Area
12 FCC website was discussed in relation to adding a list of recommended
services providers. Leslie cautioned
this action due to the fact that every individual is going to have a different
experience with a provider. For example,
two different individuals who received services from the same provider may have
totally different feedback regarding the quality of service provided. Recommendation of providers heavily involves
opinions. A suggestion was to encourage
families to check the Del Marva Review on service providers, which would offer
an unbiased report on the quality of services provided.
VI. ADJOURN:
With no further business to come before the Council the meeting adjourned at 3:56 PM.
