ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTIONS:
The meeting was called to order at
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from
the April meeting were reviewed and accepted except for 1 typo.
III. OLD BUSINESS:
Stanfield Videos - 2 copies of the James
Stanfield tapes, Be Cool, series were received.
Each set consists of 4 boxed sets of about 4 VHS tapes each. Coping with teasing, Coping with anger,
coping with criticism and coping with bullying.
A teacher manual is included with each package of tapes. The FCC is donating these tapes to the
Volusia and Flagler libraries to be used in their disabilities section of the
library.
They will be made
available to families of persons with disabilities. Teachers in the school system may want to
borrow them as well. They are excellent
training aides for folks with DD. They
use professional actors in humorous situations in order to make the point.

Newspaper Ad - covered at the last meeting. We
need to figure out how to get our meeting notices in the paper
Next Mailing Phil Pearson is preparing
another issue of the newsletter. Folks present
were asked to read it and email comments.
Any ideas, of course, are welcome.
We will have info
about legislation,
obtaining services from voc rehab, info about our area legislators and, of course, a pitch for the family care council.
Return Address stamp received. Phil has it.
It will be used to put return addresses on our next newsletter.
Meeting Changes - The next 2 meetings will be
at our usual location in
IV. New Business
Agency Update - The APD website has a link
to FAQ on the budget. Also APD is
looking at quality improvements and recouping of improperly used funds by
providers.
Duvall homes as
sent eviction notices to 27 folks. APD
is actively working to identify proper placements for these folks. This is listed under PRESBYTERIAN SPEC SVCS
THE DUVALL PRESBYTERIAN HOME.

Parents are advised to call the

available to parents and families as well as to providers. Check the Area 12 APD page for details. It was decided that Sandra Mills will provide
a short, 30 minute, training at the August meeting in Deland. She will go over the power-point put together
by the Area 12 quality council on how to best navigate the system.

suggestion by Kelly to provide training on how to do an IEP.
Legislative Review the results of this years
legislature were reviewed. New 4 tier
system and some cut-backs. Hopefully
this will result in less waste and allow the system to start addressing the
waiting list. See the upcoming
newsletter for more details.
Plan For Legislators There was a request for a
sample letter to the Governor so that folks that are not familiar with the
problems could write a letter of support.
Phil will attempt this.
Discussion
about how to start working with legislators. Suggestion was to contact Rolley
Clapp for advise.
Phil will follow up.
All present were
asked to check on legislative town hall meeting schedules.

Open discussion Ms. Gilbreath indicated that they were having some success
obtaining help find a job from Voc Rehab.
The waiting list is
now over 16,000.
