  • NEW BUSINESS:

§       Barry Pollack, President & CEO of UCP:

Mr. Pollack announced that he has been in the field for 29 years and has dedicated his life to this line of work.  He is very concerned with the state of affairs of the developmentally disabled population.  There are not enough funds in the state of Florida to assist them and it is very important that individuals and their families advocate on behalf of the developmentally disabled.  It is detrimental to figure out how as a group how to make their voices heard.  Another thing to pay close attention to is the coming of the “Tiered Waivers”.  Funding for this will come from individuals currently on the waiver.  There is a disturbing outcome to putting people on the tiered waiver.  Mr. Pollack also disseminated and spoke about the following handouts:

§       Text of Gov. Crist’s State of the State address

§       Legislative Report #1 on Developmental Disabilities Prepared for UCP of Florida by Kingsley Ross

§       Summary of VR adjustments for FY 07-08 agreed upon during the legislative Conference Committee sessions.

Mr. Pollock also handed out a flier about DD Awareness Day and volunteered to send any information he has to Chair Pearson regarding upcoming sessions that the FCC , individuals with developmental disabilities and their families can attend to have their voices heard.

Member Pinto volunteered collaborate with Mr. Pollack on a short article to add to the upcoming newsletter.

§       Family CAFÉ

Chair Pearson motioned for the Family Care Council to provide a scholarship, not to exceed $500 for Member Samar to attend the upcoming Family CAFÉ seconded by Member Pinto.  The motion carried.

Receipts will need to be forwarded to Shirley Bostick in the program office 5-days after travel has taken place.

§       Sandra Mills, New Member Orientation
