Draft Summary Minutes

  • ROLL CALL AND INTRODUCTIONS:

 

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 P.M

 

  • APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

 

The minutes of the December meeting were reviewed and approved as written. 

 

  • OLD BUSINESS:

·       Last Mailing / Next Mailing

Chair Pearson reported that the last Family Care Council’s newsletter had been mailed to consumers and families and that he is currently working on the next mail out and.  He asked for input on what information should be included. Chair Pearson will be meeting with Senator Lynn next week and hopes to get a picture of her to include in the newsletter is also looking for another bio of a staff member of the APD program office.

 

Ed De Bardeleben, Area Administrator suggested Vanessa Carter the program offices’ trainer.

 

·          Recommendations for libraries

Chair Pearson asked for an update on the purchase of the books for use in the Volusia and Flagler libraries.  Mr. De Bardeleben stated that he was unaware that the books were to be ordered and advised that the order would be placed today.

 

 

 

 

·          Speaker phone and conference number

Mr. De Bardeleben reported that there was a liaison conference call approximately 3-weeks ago and that they were close to assigning a conference code for individuals to be able to call in and participate in the Family Care Council meetings.  All Family Care Council’s throughout the state will be able to utilize it.

 

·          Recommended Providers

Chair Pearson asked if anyone had any providers that they would like to recommend.  He had some that were included in the newsletter however; he has not gotten any feedback yet.

 

·          February Social

The February Social will be held at the Daytona Beach Regional Service Center in room 148.  Ed De Bardeleben will be contacting Jane Johnson for confirmation of her attendance.  The Council approved allocating $600.00 for a mailer to be sent out inviting individuals to attend the soccial.

 

·          Minutes from the APD planning session

The program office has not received the minutes from the Planning Session from Tallahassee.  Mr. De Bardeleben will provide Council with the summary from the session held in Area 12.

 

·          Assessor Training schedule

Area 12 APD has hired 3 OPS Needs Assessors and will be providing training.  There is 2 area staff that are certified and will be facilitating the training.  This is being done throughout the state.  Chair Pearson will be attending the training.

 

 

  • NEW BUSINESS:

 

·       Central Florida Parent Center, Inc.

 

Anna Brynild from the Central Florida Parent Center presented a power point on her organization and its role in assisting individuals with achieving results in education.  The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and provides parents of children with disabilities with the training and information they need to prepare their children to meet academic goals, as well as to lead productive, independent lives.  The project serves a 30-county region specified by the U.S. Department of Education.  The project will ensure that parents of children with disabilities and young adults with disabilities will receive training and information on their rights, responsibilities, and protections under IDEA in order to develop the skills necessary to cooperatively and effectively participate in planning and decision-making relating to early intervention, educational, and transitional services.  Chair Pearson asked for a short article about the organization to put in the newsletter.

  

·       FCCF Attendance

 

The FCCF meeting will be held next week.  Chair Pearson will be attending and anyone interested in attending also is welcomed.

 

 

·       Senator Lynn meeting

 

Chair Pearson will be meeting with Senator Lynn.  If there are any issues that the council would like for him to discuss with the Senator to let him know.

 

 

·       2007 / 2008 budget

The FCC budget will be accepting applications for expenses  for folks wishing to attend the Family Cafe.

 

 

·       Agency Updates

 

Ed De Bardeleben reported on the following:

 

Ø     The Senate Sub-Committee meeting.

 

Ø     The Govenor’s office is reviewing applications for FCC members and confirmation should be forthcoming.

 

Ø     APD will be taking over the responsibility of completing cost plans reviews.  The role of the support coordinator is to be an advocate.  There was a memo sent out to APD that is also being sent the FCC regarding the specific responsibility of the support coordinator.  APD is still in the process of getting information on the process and will be providing more information at the upcoming FCC meeting.  The information will be sent via email so that it may be posted on the web site.

Ø     The quarterly provider meeting is being held next Friday.  Anyone can attend as it is an open meeting.

 

 

  • OPEN DISCUSSION:

 

Joan Mannix provided Chair Pearson with a flyer regarding an event that she and Shae Porter from the Agency for Persons with Disabilities are facilitating to market employment to individuals with developmental disabilities.

 

A discussion ensued regarding the use of the APD training room for future Family Care Council meetings.  It was decided that effective January 2008 the meetings will be held at the APD program office.

 

 

  • ADJOURNMENT:

 

With no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 5:00 P.M.
